A number is divisible by 8,
if the last digit in the units place is 0 or even, and
after dividing the number by 2, the value of the last two digits is divisible by 4
METHOD
Step 1. Check out the last digit. If the last digit in the units place is 0 or even, then proceed to Step 2.
Step 2. Divide the original number by 2. The answer of a division is known as Quotient
Step 3. Check out the last two digits of the quotient in Step 2
Step 4. If the value the two digits is divisible by 4, then the number is also divisible by 8.
Example 1. Consider the number 312
Step 1. The last digit is 2, which is even. Proceed with Step 2.
Step 2. 312 / 2 = 156
Step 3. The value the two digits is 56
Step 4. 56 / 4 = 14 exactly
Since the value the last two digits is divisible by 4, so 316 is also divisible by 8.
Check. 312 / 8 = 39 exactly
Example 2. Consider the number 4698
Step 1. The last digit is 8, which is even. Proceed with Step 2.
Step 2. 4698 / 2 = 2349
Step 3. The value the two digits is 49
Step 4. 49 / 4 = 12 remain 1
Since the value the last two digits is not divisible by 4, so 4698 is also not divisible by 8.
Check. 4698 / 8 = 587 remain 2
Example 3. Consider the number 8253
Step 1. The value the last digits is 3, which is odd
Since the value the last digits is odd, so 8253 is not divisible by 8.
Check. 8253 / 4 = 2064 remain 1
